Synopsis: Back in the spring of 2006 I bought myself a small digital camera and discovered that with the video function on that tiny thing I could make recordings in black and white. The quality of those recordings surprised me, and reminded me slightly of the 16mm black and white material from my first film shoots around 1969. Now I began to be curious about mixing the video with my color photographs. The different qualities of the images (brilliant color photos / grainy video) suddenly seemed exciting. So that initial fooling around now gained a direction: How do I actually find my images, and why do I shoot them in that particular way? A different aspect was the contrast between the city, whose various manifestations I had photographed over the last 30 years, and the countryside, where I’m located today (after a long phase of construction) in my "barn studio" during the week. How does the contemporary flood of visual content alter the way I find images? As you can see, I didn’t stop, I groped my way ahead, astonished by the possibilities suddenly offered me by a medium I had previously despised, video. (Ingo Kratisch)
