Country: West Germany

Synopsis: It seems that Hölderlin with his epistolary novel "Hyperion" has not only tried to resolve the eternal contradiction between man and the world into a higher unity, he also succeeded in overcoming this dispute by representing humanity inseparably linked with nature and history. The fact that the antagonism can be dissolved calls for discussion. The images accompanying the selected passages reflect on the path of knowledge and the desire to both bond with and escape from the world. The film consists of a sequence of concrete images and condensed excerpts, which, interrupted by staged scenes, alternate, approach and counteract the text. It originated from a playful approach to rigid forms. (Jutta Sartory & Ingo Kratisch)
