Synopsis: Intersecting between documentary and fiction, the feature film "Cryptomnesia" depicts the trip of a young immigrant man on a Sunday summer day through the west German industrial city Dortmund. His everyday life experiences match-cut on the screen with his multiple flashbacks: when and how did he come to Dortmund? We witness the young protagonist (named Reinoldus) in a club, at the central train station and hanging out with friends on the lake. A voice over tells the story of a long journey through Europe lasting for seven months or one month or maybe three months; a journey that Reinoldus took as a child together with is mother, seeking asylum. Reinoldus story tells about strange images and events which he encountered during that journey. The own biography of the author cannot be cut-off from Reinoldus experiences. The film uses no distanced perspective, but sticks to an unmediated hyper-subjective gaze.
