Country: Germany
Year: 2000, 2005
Synopsis: "’Have a good time’. That's the opposite of what an inexperienced traveler expects to hear on a trip to Israel. With these light words, I take the viewer along on my trip to Israel." (Silke Helmerdig) HAVE A GOOD TIME came about during Silke Helmerdig's first visit to relatives in Israel. Following the typical 1960s practice of recording travel experiences on super-8, the filmmaker decided to research this (to her) foreign land by means of silent super-8 recordings and to simultaneously collect sounds recordings on a cassette recorder. Both elements were chosen, even during the recording, so that they could be put together uncut into the final edit. Through the overlap arise gaps and confirmations, a mixture of trust, expectation and surprise.
